Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: Parenting Adolescents through Mindfulness

This seminar will introduce parents to the major concepts of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a therapeutic approach that can be highly effective with teens who are severely dysregulated and difficult to parent. DBT works to decrease emotional pain and to increase skills to tolerate distress, manage emotions, maintain healthy interpersonal relationships, and be more fully in the moment. Parents learn coping skills in a multi-family setting along with their adolescents, thus enabling them to coach and encourage their teens in the home environment. If your adolescent is exhibiting extremely challenging behaviors and struggles with regulating their emotions, DBT may be right for your family.
